Thermal Imagers range widely in price, and as expected, widely in quality. After looking at a few of the lesser priced models, I found the Perfect Prime IR281 to be a good balance of cost and quality. The look and feel of the device is solid and professional; it comes with a hard shell case and is easily rechargeable. Best, and most important, the resolution is clear; it is easy to distinguish what you are seeing. For home inspection use, wire coils in in-floor heating, gaps in insulation or window/door perimeters, and other images are clearly defined. The tool can be used to identify problems, but is clear enough to also be used to show homeowner clients.
I give four stars rather than five only because there are (more expensive) models that can offer a wider range of utility, which may be needed for technically special jobs. The strength of this model is its clarity of resolution and overall fit and finish at a very reasonable price.

After having previously used the IR0280 Thermal Camera from PerfectPrime, I was excited to try out this upgraded version. I am extremely impressed with the much higher resolution of 206 x 156.
I am very happy with the other added/upgraded features. I absolutely love that it can take videos as I can come back to it later on and see if there are any details I have missed. The touch screen is also great as it allows me to see the temperature of a specific point in a saved image so that I do not have to take multiple images to check temperatures of different points in the same area. There is also a new feature where you can connect the thermal camera to a monitor where you can see live situations on the screen. This isn’t something I would require at my job but is a nice extra feature to have.
Overall, the IR281 is a great tool for Home inspection - especially with finding water/air leakages or insulation issues. It would be difficult to find a higher quality thermal camera at this price range.
I needed to get a new thermal camera since my Flir had basically broken down due to the long-term use and age.
I've always been adding thermal inspection on my report to show gaps in the missing insulation, energy audits, and taking a look at windows. This adds so much more value to the customer for them to see what needs to be done rather than take my word for it.
I was searching around for a replacement when I came across this product. Honestly, didn't know much about them, never heard of PerfectPrime before, but did my research and saw that are they are on other marketplaces as well and sent a message to them asking for more information to which they responded positively. So having confirmed the 30-day guarantee, I ordered this and was pleasantly surprised.
The thermal resolution is good, not the best when compared to flir, due to the main fact that flir has MSX, but it doesn't cost as much either and that's a big plus. I can take photos with thermal overlay instead of using software to manually saves me time.
